Parker County Texas Line Strike Creates
Massive Explosion
In mid-March, a
strike at a line crossing by a backhoe attempting to expose the line
created a massive explosion and fire that continued to burn for
several days. Amazingly, there were no injuries or fatalities from
the blast, which generated a plume of smoke that could be seen as
far away as Fort Worth. There were also reports that the explosion
cut power to about 30,000 people in the surrounding area.

CGA Releases Results of 2005 DIRT Data
Analysis
The CGA recently
released an analysis of the
2005 DIRT (Damage Information Reporting Tool)
Data. The analysis advised that even after facilities were properly
located and marked, 22.2% or 11,457 of the reported facility events
that occurred were recorded as “excavation practices not
sufficient”. The classification of ‘excavation practices not
sufficient’ was the second most frequently reported root cause by
stakeholders.

and public awareness campaign in Washington, DC on May 1st,
2007 with over one hundred stakeholders and partners attending this
historic event. The new Call 811

across the United States. One easy phone call to 811, anywhere in
the United States, will get the approximate location of underground

New Pipeline Safety Law Beginning to Take Shape
New pipeline safety
legislation is beginning to take shape in the House of
Representatives, promising a new law aimed at further safety
enhancements for the nation's underground utility system. According
to the Association of Oil Pipe Lines (AOPL), HR 5872,if enacted,
will become the basis for the House Committee Transportation and
Infrastructure for consideration of pipeline safety reauthorization
and it identifies the core provisions that are likely to appear in
the final bill. |
